I don't think it made much of a difference. The transom and nose piece are oak, the sheer clamp and rub rail are ash. The floor and shelfs are cedar.

Eddie, the decking is 1/2 marine plywood and the deck beams are vertical grain fir.. The plan was to use the same quality materials as David does in the boats he builds. Unfortunately, I was not able to get mahogany so I substituted it for ash and oak.

Where about in VT are you? My parents live in St-Jean-Sur-Richelieu. Lots of excellent hunting in fields around lake Champlain. Not sure about the Richelieu as there are a lot of cottages in certain areas. I'm sure you can find a spot fairly easily.

If you can find some Goby looking like lures buy them. A friend was fishing for smallies on St-Lawrence and every fish they caught was stuffed with them.
