Epoxy filler - US Composites

Paul.
I have used cabosol ( dont know if i spelled it correctly) its very tough stuff when cured and sands a little harder then wood or straight epoxy. Enough that I am careful not to leave extra that needs to be sanded off.

I have used microballons. They sand like butter and for fairing or filling they work really well but I would not use them in high wear area's or where strength is a big concern.

A mix of both is usually a good compromise. sands easier and has more strength.

I prefer not using cabosil. I don't like breathing it every time I touch the container. I'm fine wearing a mask sanding, but not mixing epoxy.

I like microballoons and wood flour, for different reasons. I also mix them to get a material I can work with if I need to. Microballoons result in a pretty weak material that obviously sands well.

Paul~

U S Composites' Fairing Compound is a mix of Cabosil + microballoons. The former to prevent sagging, the latter to make sanding fun and easy. I love it for non-structural work - filling and fairing.

I have not done a lot of filleting - but I usually mix up some ad hoc concoction. Friends with more stitch-n-glue experience seem to like wood flour. I will have to put some on my next order.

I share Tod's thoughts about the Cabosil - so I put the mask on when I am mixing it in.

All the best,

SJS

I'm with Steve, I like their fairing compound. It goes on nice and is easy to sand. I haven't done anything that I would consider "structural" with it. I would have to do some research and possibly use a different product for structural applications.

Happy with us composites... Placed a order on monday for epoxy and glass. Was promised for tuesday, with the holiday. Arrived thursday, what great service...
