Power again!

The storm was really something. I got power back on Sat, after 7 days. I supplement with wood all winter anyway so the heat wasn't a problem. We camp in Maine in the summer so I broke out my coleman stove and we cooked on the back deck for a week. Melted snow on the stove for water so that wasn't a problem either. Some of the neighbors are more civilized than I am I guess. They were the ones that sat in their cars 3 or 4 hours a day to keep warm after they tried to light bonfires in their driveways with the green branches that fell down. One of them climbed a small cherry tree in his front yard and was cutting branches with a bow saw!

Welcome Back! Got mine back Fri. My daughter's house got power last night, and I'm waiting to hear if Mom got hers back yet. Her phone line is still down. Was your yard torn up much?

My yard wasn't too bad. 6 trees & a lot of branches. It was eerie listening to the trees around my house come down all night long. How bad did it hit you?

Wendell,

We made out fairly well. The trees out in the swamp had already dropped most of their leaves and we had 6 trees removed that were hanging over the house and wires this spring. Timing for removing the trees couldn't have been better. We did have the maple in the front yard get fairly smashed up, top of one side and lots of limbs came down. Still have a widow maker hanging in the maple, broken off one of my neighbor's trees. Will bug CP&L once things quiet down a bit to get it out of there. Got most of the damage cleaned up yesterday. Right now the maple looks pretty beat, I suspect it will be gone in the spring, replaced with something we can keep trimmed below the wires. Link to my pictures

Scott and Wndel,
that is Nuts! That maple is something.
What a mess. We barely had a tree down during Irene. You guys look like you will be dealing with that for quite some time. I feel for the guy at CL&P who has to face the media and say "We are no where near having it fixed"

I fell your pain.

During the 2004 Hurricane season, we had no power for (3) three weeks total.

Had $60,000 in damage to the house.

Powered the house by generator & cooked on the propane grill.

In the evenings, we had to shut everything off to power the water heater so we could take showers.

Cooled the master bedroom with a window shaker.

The only good thing that came from it was FPL kicked Asplundh in the arse & for the next (2) two years, they cut & cleared anything remotely near a powerline.

Looks like the trees taking out the lines was also caused most of the outages up your way!!!

Wendall ,

Welcome back to the world !!! How much snow did you get out that way ?
