I ran across this video which provides some good insights into modern materials used in boat building. The discussion is from the point of view of materials for boat cabinet making, rather than hull construction, but the info goes beyond boat cabinets.

I had just bookmarked these videos a couple of days ago - inspired by Noah's work. (I imagine there must be a YouTube somewhere on The Original Noah's work with gopherwood - all measured carefully in spans and cubits....)

I will be using some Coosa Board soon - to replace a floor in a Tom Pryor AeroMarine Sneakbox. It'll be my experience with this new world of high-tech plastics.

There are certainly a lot of new products out there since I built my first in 1998. However, I don't think any of them are a substitute for the plywood in the hull of a stitch-n-glue boat. Wood simply possesses characteristics like strength and bendability that are hard to replicate.
