Coosa for Core Replacement?

Thoughts on replacing balsa core in a floor with Coosa board?

I had planned on repairing my TDB floor with Divinycell or a similar foam core product. The transom and motor board I planned to use coosa board.

I was lucky enough to find a local dealer for Coosa products that had 3/4" in stock. They will only sell in full sheets. This gives me plenty of material leftover to do the floor if I wish.

For the size area I am replacing, fresh non saturated Balsa core would weigh 7.125 pounds. Coosa 26 would weigh 19.5 pounds. Pretty substantial difference in weight.

What say you all? Rock on with the Coosa or save the leftovers for another project.

You have to know what you are doing with these epoxy boards. Fist off is cutting them. If it is a fiber reinforced board, normal blades will cut it but it will take a few of them. Then you have exposed fiber where you cut which could absorb water. Mother thing to consider is Coosa, along with other manufacturers make a variety of densities. Make dilute you get the right board for the job.

I did quite a bit with this type of material back in the day. I was familiar with the belt as Penske Board. Don't know if they are still around or have been bought. They were located in TN

I think they're dry Laminated coosa would probably be pretty equivalent in weight to the water saturated balsa.

If that's what you have and you have enough to do the floor I would go with it
