Steel Shells at Rodgers OUtdoors

I noticed suppliers are selling cases of 200 instead of the normal 250 or 10 boxes. Just be aware before you purchase.

I often shoot my 16g and 28g and in the last few years found it hit or miss finding decent shells. I found claysammo.com, who carry armusa shells. These are Spanish shells and I've found them very high quality and clean - and reasonably affordable (generally cases are below $125). They also tend to be lower FPS shells, which I much prefer. I'll never understand the competition the big shell makers seem to be in to offer the highest fps.

When it comes to waterfowl ammo. It is totally worth it to load your own.

Might not save money, but the loads you make will be vastly better then any you can buy.

I load tss or tss/steel duplex now days but back before I got into tss. I loaded steel shot. I had a 1 1/4 oz load of 2 steel that I developed, when I compared it too the top 6 factory loads of 2 steel 1 1/4 oz 3 inch shells (at that time). The factory loads couldn't even come close to touching it's speed consistency or its pattern performance.

For my 28 gauge, I don't even waist my time with steel shot. I use some bismuth but mostly a 1oz tss/steel duplex load in a 2 3/4 inch hull.

Scheels had some good deals going too, might be worth looking there as well. I like the "free shipping" deals at places like Rogers and Scheels, not having to figure shipping feels good even if you really are paying for it.

For those of you who used to shoot boss and can't afford to pay, or they just stopped making them, Roger's also had good prices on bismuth. Only downside was the goose shells are #1 which aren't legal in CT

I thought this was quite odd so I googled it. AI claims you can use up to BB. RM

Shotguns - The possession of shotgun ammunition larger or heavier than #2 shot is prohibited on state-owned lands, state-leased lands, and Permit-Required Hunting Areas, at all times, and is prohibited on private lands during the Private Land Shotgun/Rifle Deer Season (see Permit-Required and State-Leased Hunting Area sections for exceptions). However, on any lands, waterfowlers hunting from a boat, blind, or stationary position may use up to and including size BB steel shot

Welcome to CT, where there is always more than one answer to every riddle. This is the actual reg cut and pasted from the CT migratory bird hunting guide :

Only the following shot shall be used for hunting waterfowl, coots, and rails: (1)non-toxic steel shot no larger than BB steel, or (2) any other federally-approved non-toxic shot type, such as bismuth-tin alloy, tungsten iron, tungsten polymer, tungsten matrix, or tungsten-nickel-iron (Hevishot) shot no larger than #2. No person may possess lead shot while waterfowl hunting.
