Let me introduce myself.

Hi everybody

My name is Rob Taylor, I am known on some of the hunting forums as Skeet in NZ. Yes I am in New Zealand. Our way of hunting is somewhat different to your way of hunting. We shoot our ducks from mainly a fixed based stand which we call a MaiMai (what you call a blind) these are mainly in the water and can stand out like a soar thumb. So we do have to camo them up with vegeatation.

I am looking at changing the way I hunt and are building a layout style boat. I have done a lot of searching on the internet and have read on post of the Refuge and but I have found myself coming here to get knowledge on the boat blinds.

I purchased a set of plans of the The Kara Hummer from Rob Leonard and also have been looking at the hybrid rubber. Now having the plans for the Kara I have layed them out side by side and find a 14" against a 10" there is a lot of difference as the 14" will need to have a trailer but the 10" would go on top of my decoy trailer.

Is there anyone on this site that may have just built a rubber? As I am now thinking the smaller option would be better as I currently don't have a gun dog trained or in training at the moment.

I am thinking of building it out of red cedar as I am a joiner cabinet maker by trade. I know when I talked to Rob about the cedar he was concerned about knots. But the cedar I will be using has no knots in it. I am thinking of the weight facter (no I am not interested in building a foamer).

So mainly this was meant to be an introduction to you all about myself. And this is what I am looking at doing over the summer months here hopefully having it all ready for the May 2007 duck season when it starts for me again.

I start back again hunting Canada Geese in Febuary as the crops will be ready for them to start becoming a nusiance to the farmers at that time.

Skeet...I'm glad you finally made it over here. I see your posts on Flocknockers. You guys sure have lots of big Canadas. Welcome to the best site on the net!

Rob,

These guys will give you some good advice. Let me know how it works out. I have got a frame started that I will skin and glass after our duck season goes out. You may have some good advice after you get done with yours.

Rob,
Glad to have you onboard. I look forward to your posts and pics. You Kiwis seem to have a strong hunting and fishing tradition yet the Aussies seem to have let their hunting rights go down the toilet. Any idea why that is?

Welcome Rob. There's a lot of boat builders here with all kinds of experience. I'm sure you'll find what you're looking for. We are always interested in how others hunt in their home lands. Look forward to your posts.
