    Look what followed me home

I came across the breed several years ago. Everything I read said they are excellent waterfowl dogs and they point. I had wanted to try a pointer because I do hunt quite a bit of upland too, so I figured if I could get one dog that does both as opposed to two dog I'd give it a try

    Look what followed me home

With the unexpected passing of Beau last May, I went through last season dogless. First time in over 30 years. That wasn't going to happen again, so I spent last weekend driving to Virginia to pick up an 8 week old Pudelpointer. Here's Beau on his last hunt. Didn't know it at the time. And...

    Widgeon BBSB build question

I too built one 10-15 years ago. Still using it now. The bow block looks right, minus final shaping. Mine was also made from two pieces and through bolted. No need with a single piece. Good luck, looking forward to following your progress. Mines ready for an overhaul and some upgrades...

Weapon for Shooting Beaver at Night

In my career as a game warden I have delt with A LOT of beaver problems. All the control devices do is just slow them down. You'll still have problems annd you have to maintain them on a regular basis. Eradicating them is the answer. Most warden's used .22, but my preference was 12 ga with 00...

    Avian flu in white geese

PA just had an eagle and five hooded mergansers test positive for HPAI. Be careful and report dead or sick birds. Do not handle. Greater threat to domestic poultry than humans though. https://www.media.pa.gov/Pages/game-commission-details.aspx?newsid=534

What's on your workbench August 2021

I hunted more open water out of my ZTW last year and decided a decoy pick up stick would make life a lot easier. I started with an old broomstick and this is what I came up with.... ... and yes Steve it has the required Turk's head knot.

Solid copper rivets / push pole

I went with Steve's suggestion of an aluminum binding post. McMaster delivered them within 24 hours. Fit perfect and gave a nice clean appearance which is what I wanted. Now I'm on to the pole. I've got a 10 ft closet rod fitted to the push pole head. Just try to decide if I should paint it or...

Solid copper rivets / push pole

Thanks everyone for your input. I think I like the binding post idea with a little lock lite. I'll have to see what I can find locally.

    Truck bed extender/slide out/whatever they're called

Dani, I have the Decked drawers in my work truck. They are pricey but work very well. I spend a lot of time on dirt roads and they truly are waterproof and dust proof. The drawers are very sturdy, slide in and out easily and can be divided up for organizing. My only complaint for a personal...
