Duck populations

Does anyone know if a map (on the internet) showing which ducks are where? I am looking to make a move when I retire and I want to go somewhere in Idaho, I think. I don't want to move to an area devoid of ducks or having to drive 100 miles to find them. I have seen maps like this before, but tonight I just can't find what I want to know.

Thank you for the info. Let me clarify something maybe I didn't explain well enough. I have seen maps of the entire United States with blobs of blue, red, green etc showing duck populations and flyways and all of that. THAT is what I am looking for. I searched through Ducks Unlimited w/o success. I finally gave up.

Out of curiosity, what part of the US do you want to retire in? Each state is unique in its appeal.

You have to be careful looking at those blob maps. For example I've seen some show us with no Goldeneyes and others show us covered with them in SD. The truth is a few lakes and a river or two can be good for them but the rest of the state doesn't see many.
You can search each species here and it shows maps. http://identify.whatbird.com/mwg/_/0/attrs.aspx

This site has the breeding bird count and the Christmas bird count on it. I think they are only from one or two years though so they aren't to be counted on.

Instead of range maps I'd look at places where there are a lot of WPAs or waterfowl refuges. Normally these are only in areas that will hold concentrations of ducks.

Good luck with your search.

Well Al, my wife likes Washington because she was born here and she likes Mt Rainier. If I could go anywhere I wanted, I would go back to N Dakota. I used to hunt around Ramsey County when I was a kid. There is a lot of good fishing and bird hunting there. My wife HATES the weather back there. Idaho is not too far from our grand kids, and there are lots of mountains there for the wife.

My brother lives in Arizona and her brother lives in Oklahoma. I just want to get away from the high taxes here in Washington. It cost me over $114 for a fishing license here!!!! With my fancy new boat, I plan on being in it for either fish or ducks for a long time. I am in the research mode right now. I still have 3 years left to work.
