NDR Motor question

I have an older Evinrude 6 hp that hasnt been run in several years. I need to get it running. Its likely that the inpeller is shot. My question is, if I use a hose attachment to try to get it started will water be forced through and overheating avoided? Thanks

short answer, Yes water will be forced thru the cooling system.

Long answer, Don't do it without first removing the impeller. If the impeller is quite old it most likely will be brittle. You run the risks of rubber pieces breaking off the impeller and lodging elsewhere in the cooling system, which WILL cause a blockage and overheating.

As was said before, do not run with out the new impeller installed. Not a difficult job' check the housing also. I would replace the thermostat also. With the water connected, do not rev it up too high.
Sounds like time to get the manual out and do a complete PM. Still have one left for a spare. Grreat motors...
