October Workbench...

Good morning Pat & All~

Lots of great work this month!

Here is a Short-eared Owl I painted onto a sign made by other volunteers. This site is part of a larger IBA - Important Bird Area - which protects habitats for grassland birds. They typically get a bunch of Short-eareds - as well as Snowy Owls, Rough-legged Hawks, Snow Buntings and Lapland Longspurs in the winter. Upland Sandpiper is the bird we hope for in the spring.

The sign has 2 sides - so I will be painting an "identical" SEO onto the "flip side" after gunning this morning.

Great job on the short eared owl, Steve. It brought back memories. Good luck on your hunt this morning.

Good morning, Paul~

I finished Owl # 2 -the other side of the sign - yesterday.

We ended a very slow first half on a high note. A double on Mallards kept me smiling all day.

All the best,

SJS

Good morning Steve, i missed that owl earlier....its outstanding!

My build is Devlins Pelicano, 18' CC. Its really shoehorned into my garage!

Good morning, Bill~

Thanks for the kind words. That sign is now out of my shop - getting several coats of marine varnish from another volunteer. The "grand opening" of the grassland is in about 10 days.

Here is a pair of Blue-wings from the "bench" of George Williams:

With any luck, I will post a few of my own later today.....

All the best,

Good morning, Pat et al~

Lots of re-painting of late.

Here is a pair of Bean's Wigeon which began life as Coastal Mallards.

I lopped about a half-inch off the bills. I wish there had been a bit more crown to work with.

These are Al McCormick Black Ducks - now enjoying life as Mallards.

This is my latest impulse. I picked up 40 or so of Herter's smaller foam birds - the Model 63s. I put my epoxy+sawdust coating on 10 and hunted them up on Champlain a couple of days ago.
