I have to laugh at my kids comments the other day on working and life. Our Daughter has been employed for 4 years or so now and our Son had a full time internship last summer. Both commented on how can you have fun with work getting in the way. They said they get home after work and have enough time to do one thing fun, if even that, and then it is the daily grind of life (dinner, cleaning, fixing, working, etc....) My wife and I just laughed and told them wait till you get you own house or two, have kids and so on. They think it is difficult now. Told our son to not be I a hurry to start his new career next Spring (he was just offered a full time position with the company he interned for)
After the discussion with the kids, the topic of Diane and my retirement came up again. A mentioned, I get "my numbers" April 1 and can chose to retire at that time. Will take a hit on pension and stuff but if you keep waiting t retire until you can get just a little bit more you will be working forever. Wife thinks she still wants to work after next April but cut back if her boss allows her to do so. I like that idea - she works and I stay home and be the trophy husband [w00t].
I am envious Dave on your current retirement. Enjoy every minute of it as it has been well earned and deserved. Take time for the little things and don't be in a rush for anything.
