It is a wheelchair. Emma was diagnosed with degenerative myelopathy, one of the first in the breed, unfortunately, and she proved to be crucial in helping develop the test that is now available. The disease is very similar to Lou Gehrig's disease in humans with the spinal cord essentially dying off from back to front.
I had her to multiple neurologists and orthopedic surgeons as we were trying to figure out what was ailing her very early in the course of the disease. I lost the 2006 season with her because we initially thought it was a disc issue and strict exercise restrictions were the treatment of choice. When we finally got to the bottom of it, and realized the lack of hunting was doing her no good I promised to hunt the hell out of her in 2007. With the help from the folks at doggonwheels we fitted her for a cart to hunt out of and gave it a go.
The first bird was a sharptail:
And then a rooster:
And we ended the season with the trifecta of the prairie chicken in the first picture. All were 100% wild birds which was very important to me for her. We tried a number of waterfowl hunts that just didn't pan out. This was an early season pass shoot:
And finally from one of the last attempts at a snow goose this spring:
Sorry to highjack the thread with pictures of her...we're in the middle of a blizzard and I just happened to be in a reflective mood.
Thanks for taking a look.
