    Brant in New Jersey

Yes - they taste bad compared to puddlers...Jim D had a recipe i remember that had to do with grilling breasts on a cedar plank - and then eating the plank... They can be made into good jerky or dog food tho. Brant season on the left coast is about 3 weekends in January, so very different than...

    Mixing species in a spread

Anthony, Barnegat is a great bay to hunt - a lot of variety in birds and hunts. I'd leave the mallards at home and stick to your diver rig. brant decoys are optional, they are pretty friendly birds. Blacks are wary, but since you can only shoot one, don't kill yourself to make a day hunting...

    LONG LINE CLIPS

Doctari sell good clips & tar line. http://www.doctarilonglines.com/ buy the guide series if you have fixed decoys/lines. the hunters are the same but easier to clip w/frozen fingers, if you unclip your dekes from the main line each time you move them.

good start to the new year

Gene - well written and well hunted! I miss the Brant and sea ducks of the shore, but we sure have tides here in WA state- 10FT in some bays...glad the Benelli is tuned up, maybe the drop in the drink re-calibrated the gun a bit...just sayin...I've had scotch doubles on Brant, but that's not...

    jet drives?

Hey Michael, my initial impression is that a V-hull and jet-drive are kind of a mismatch. Usually a jet-drive is paired with a flatter bottom, low draft hull. Yamaha make good jet-drives though, i do have experience with them. The value in this purchase is the motor and jet-drive. Probably...

    Got your own Carhartt Story?

Hey Carl, Sorry that tongue-in-cheek humor doesn't always come across in print... there is also the remote possibility that my belly got bigger, and the carhartts didn't really shrink that much.... but i still think they are shrinking, and that's my story and i'm stickin to it... Dave

    Got your own Carhartt Story?

hey Robert - I know what you mean! I think they put somehting in the material that shrinks it up a little each time you wash it. After a year or 2, they don't fit anymore! Pretty sneaky if you ask me.... Dave

    Too many beers...

Yeah - mostly get the "blush" (shiny wax on expoxy) off the newly epoxied parts. you can do it with a green pad and soapy water, or sand a bit. Don't take too much off, more of a wash, and rough up. nice boat. Dave

    Great White

Hey Andy, I know what you mean about a better camera - but keep taking pics... I was visiting in Coeur D'Alene a couple of weeks ago and was reading the morning paper. The big photo on the front page was a flock of swans taking off. Great picture. But the photo's caption said they were snow...

    Sailing BBSB's

Hey Tom, Great minds think alike eh? That would be really fun to do something like that. Nobody sails a BBSB during duck season (come on - do you think the birds might spook?) Here in NJ we could throw in a clamming stop, since a lot of hunters run by (or over!) clam farms on the way out to...
